Two ways to access our channel

There are two ways to visit our chat channel . . .

1) visit http://chat.squeakland.org and put your nickname in place of "squeaker###".

This will bring you straight to the channel. Simply type messages at the bottom of the screen and click Enter.

2) download and install an IRC client, such as:

You'll have to tell your program to connect to the Freenode network (irc.freenode.net), then type:

/join #etoys

You can then type messages at the bottom and click Enter.

Getting help alerts

It's very useful to set up your IRC client to notify you when someone types your name or @HELP.

Here are instructions for the various clients for how to do this.

Snak (Mac) .. I'm using 5.3.3 as I write this

  1. click the "Panels" menu, then "Action list" (you can also type command-N)
  2. click the "Add" button
  3. choose "Channel message" from "Event" dropdown
  4. type "#etoys" in the "In channels" field
  5. type "@HELP" in the "Message" field
  6. choose "Post Growl Notification" in the "Response" field
  7. instead of Growl, you can also try "Play sound" and choose a sound
